OUR STORY
Lox in a Box is a dedication to deli culture.
our story is one of tradition, family and community.
Long before the modern deli existed, Jewish communities across Poland relied on traditional preservation techniques to make the most of every ingredient. Perfecting the art of curing, pickling and smoking. As these Jewish families emigrated across Europe and beyond, they carried these age-old recipes and techniques with them.
In 1904, our family journeyed from Poland to London with handwritten recipes tucked into their back pockets. The humble Polish bagel found its place at the heart of our family-run provisions and merchant deli. It was here our recipes were refined and quality goods were traded.
As our family continued its journey from London to California, and eventually to Sydney, one thing never changed. Our traditional and familiar food created comfort, connection and a sense of home, no matter where we were in the world.
Ours is just one of many stories like this. Across generations, home kitchens became neighbourhood delis and appetizing stores. More than places to shop, they became places to gather—to celebrate milestones, share stories, catch up with neighbours and keep traditions alive. This is the deli culture that we proudly celebrate today.
At Lox in a Box, we're honoured to carry this story forward. Everything we create is inspired by the generations before us and made for generations to come.

What is lox?
It’s in our name for a reason. a cornerstone of jewish deli culture. preserved and celebrated over generations.
Lox is salmon that’s been salt-cured, not smoked.
Our lox is made in house from New Zealand Ōra King salmon. Sustainably raised in tune with nature it is unlike any other salmon - so exceptional it is often referred to as “the wagyu of the sea”. Prized and renowned for its harmonious balance of sweet umami and rich, buttery texture.
Our lox is a labour of love. Cured and crusted in- house, with our signature peppery pastrami rub. We take such pride in our fish, with every piece being hand sliced by our team.
Traditionally served atop a bagel, it is best layered with schmear, tomato, capers, red onion and a generous squeeze of lemon - just as we do on our classic lox bagel in store. Or pick up a take-home pack from any of our in store delis to enjoy your way at home.
